Two earlier lists gave a more limited enumeration of Washington peaks with 2000 feet of prominence:

In 1991 Steve Fry published a landmark first survey of the major prominent landforms in Washington, encompassing the 100 highest peaks in the state with 2000 feet or more of prominence (Note 1). The peaks in this list were ranked by elevation, rather than prominence, and in general the exact prominence beyond 2000 feet was not determined. The rules for prominence were slightly more relaxed than for the present list, leading to inclusion of two peaks not found in the present list (Note 2).
In 2000 a list was published by Edward Earl, Jeff Howbert, Andy Martin, and John Roper, ranking the 50 most prominent peaks in Washington, with exact prominences determined using a clean rule. That list corresponds, with minor corrections, to the first 50 peaks on the present list.

Extension of these lists to cover all peaks in Washington with 2000 feet of prominence was done by Jeff Howbert.
